Some Lake Como villages you pass through. Varenna is one you slow down for. Stacked in ochre and terracotta above a small fishing harbour on the lake’s quieter eastern shore, it has kept the shape of the medieval fishing town it always was \u2014 narrow stepped lanes, a waterfront walk barely wide enough for two, and gardens that spill down to the water. It rewards the traveller who wants to feel Lake Como rather than tick it off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u74e6\u4f26\u7eb3\u5750\u843d\u5728\u6e56\u4e0a<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u74e6\u96f7\u7eb3\u4f4d\u4e8e \u79d1\u83ab\u6e56\u4e1c\u5cb8<\/strong>, in the Province of Lecco, roughly at the point where the lake’s three arms meet. It sits almost directly \u8d1d\u62c9\u7126\u548c\u6885\u7eb3\u7126\u5bf9\u9762<\/strong>, which is what makes it so useful: the three form the lake’s central ferry triangle, each a short hop from the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That position gives Varenna two things its rivals don’t. It catches the \u665a\u971e<\/strong> full on its fa\u00e7ades, and \u2014 facing west across open water \u2014 it offers one of the finest sunset outlooks on the lake. It’s about 20 km northwest of Lecco and an hour or so by train from Milan, which also makes it the easiest of the classic villages to reach without a car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Villa Cipressi’s terraced gardens<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
