Where to buy Lake Como ferry tickets: offices, day passes and how to pay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Navigazione Laghi offers several ticket types. Prices were increased approximately 15% for 2026 compared with the previous year. Always verify current rates on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navigazionelaghi.it\/en\/tickets-and-timetables-lake-como\/rates-lake-como\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official fares page<\/a> before your trip.<br><br><strong>One-way and return tickets:<\/strong> For travel between two specific stops without intermediate hop-offs. Return tickets do not offer a discount compared with two one-way tickets.<br><br><strong>Free Circulation Tickets (day passes):<\/strong> Unlimited hop-on\/hop-off within a defined zone for one full day. Available for the central lake area (Centro Lago), a wider mid-zone (roughly Bellano to Argegno), and the full network (Como to Colico). Ideal if you plan to visit two or more villages in a day.<br><br><strong>Circular tickets:<\/strong> These cover a loop route in the first basin of the lake, with stops including Blevio, Torno, Cernobbio, Moltrasio, and Carate Urio. A circular ticket is a practical option if you arrive at the Como ticket office after midday and have already missed the boats heading to Bellagio &mdash; rather than waiting hours for the next departure north, you can enjoy a scenic loop through the southern villages.<br><br><strong>Fast service (SR) supplement:<\/strong> Day passes and standard tickets cover ordinary boats only. If you want to board a fast service (hydrofoil or catamaran), you can upgrade your existing ticket by paying only the SR supplement at the ticket office. You can also buy a standalone SR ticket that includes the base fare plus the surcharge. <strong>Important:<\/strong> return SR tickets can only be purchased at the ticket office at your destination, not at your departure point. If you take a fast service from Como to Bellagio and want to return by fast service too, you will need to buy the return SR ticket at the Bellagio ticket office &mdash; and you may have to queue again.<br><br><strong>Where and how to buy tickets:<\/strong> Tickets can be purchased at ticket offices at major piers (Como, Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, Tremezzina), online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navigazionelaghi.it\/en\/tickets-and-timetables-lake-como\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">navigazionelaghi.it<\/a> for regular services (one-way, return, and day passes), or on board at piers without a ticket office, at no extra charge. A surcharge may apply when buying on board if the land ticket office is open. The online system is not always available for every route or ticket type, and may occasionally be offline &mdash; treat it as a convenience when it works, and always have a backup plan to buy at the pier. Queues at the main ticket offices in <strong>Como, Bellagio and Varenna<\/strong> build on most days right through the season, from April to October &mdash; not only in July and August. They are heaviest around the middle of the day, and in Varenna they arrive in bursts as the trains from Milan come in. On the busiest summer days the wait in Como and Bellagio has reached <strong>around two hours<\/strong>. NaviTap: contactless payment on board<\/h2>\n<p>Since mid-2025, Navigazione Laghi operates the <strong>NaviTap<\/strong> contactless payment system on most vessels. Instead of queuing at the ticket office, you can tap a contactless bank card, phone, or smartwatch on the onboard validator when you board (tap-in) and again when you get off (tap-out). The system calculates your fare based on the distance you travel. Accepted: Visa, VPay, Mastercard, Maestro, and digital wallets including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.<br><br><strong>What NaviTap does not cover:<\/strong> NaviTap is not available on fast services (hydrofoils and catamarans marked SR), and cannot be used when travelling with pets, bicycles, large luggage, or vehicles. It also does not support reduced or discount fares.<br><br><strong>Important &mdash; always tap out:<\/strong> If you forget to tap your card when you leave the boat, the system cannot determine where you got off. It will charge you for a daily ticket covering the full network. Always tap out on the validator as you disembark. You will hear a confirmation sound and see &ldquo;Buon Viaggio&rdquo; on the display when tapping in.<br><br><strong>NaviTap does not guarantee a seat:<\/strong> Having a contactless card ready does not mean you will get on the boat. Ferries have a fixed passenger capacity, and popular departures can sell out hours before they leave. If a boat is full, you will have to wait for the next one regardless of how you pay. In peak season, the safest approach is still to arrive early at the pier.<br><br><strong>Travelling as a group?<\/strong> One card can pay for up to 5 people. Tap the same card once per person (within 60 seconds) when boarding, then repeat the same number of taps on the same validator when disembarking. You can register your card at <a href=\"https:\/\/navitap.navigazionelaghi.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">navitap.navigazionelaghi.it<\/a> to check your travel history and charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>6. Reading the timetable and planning your route<\/h2>\n<p>Ferry timetables can look complex, but once you know how to read them they become straightforward. Each row is a single boat, each column is a pier, and the grid shows when that boat stops in each town.
