Certains villages du lac de C\u00f4me se font remarquer. Lenno fait le contraire. Il s'enroule autour d'une baie calme, presque circulaire, et laisse l'eau parler d'elle-m\u00eame, tandis que la foule passe en bateau en route vers les noms c\u00e9l\u00e8bres. Pourtant, sur le doigt bois\u00e9 juste au sud du village se dresse l'un des b\u00e2timents les plus photographi\u00e9s d'Italie, et le long du rivage serpente un chemin de promenade qui relie toute la Tremezzina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette combinaison fait le charme de Lenno sur le lac de C\u00f4me : un village lacustre pittoresque, paisible et verdoyant, qui se trouve par hasard \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de quelque chose d'extraordinaire. Un bref historique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lenno has been settled since Roman times, when the shore of the bay was known for its olive groves, giving the inlet its dialect name, the Zoca de l’Oli, the “hollow of the oil.” Its parish church and baptistery, raised on the site of earlier structures, mark it as an important early-medieval religious centre long before the villas arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The village’s later fortunes are tied to the peninsula below it. A Franciscan monastery stood on the Dosso di Lavedo from the 13th century until Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini bought the site in 1785 and, two years later, turned it into a villa. It passed through several hands before the explorer Guido Monzino, and on his death in 1988 the estate was left to the FAI, Italy’s national trust, which opens it to the public today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lenno lies on the western shore at the point where the lake is at its widest and most theatrical, roughly midway up, in the stretch known collectively as the Tremezzina. It shelters inside the Zoca de l’Oli, a deep natural inlet scooped out behind the Dosso di Lavedo, the low wooded peninsula that guards the bay from the south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The villa on the tip of the Dosso di Lavedo is Lenno’s headline sight, and deservedly so: terraced gardens, an arched loggia, and a plane tree pruned into a green canopy, all wrapped by water on three sides. Before you chase the villa, give the bay itself an hour. The Zoca de l’Oli is Lenno’s quiet heart: a curved, sheltered lakefront with a small beach, a promenade of caf\u00e9s and gelaterie, and boats resting on glassy water. It is the kind of place where the plan for the day dissolves pleasantly into a second coffee and a long look across to the mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the village centre, the parish church of Santo Stefano stands beside its small detached baptistery of San Giovanni Battista, an 11th-century survivor built over Roman foundations. The pairing is modest from the outside and quietly moving within, a reminder that Lenno’s story runs far deeper than its villas. It takes only a few minutes to visit and rarely draws a crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Le Sacro Monte d'Ossuccio et Isola Comacina<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Just south, in the neighbouring frazione of Ossuccio, the Sacro Monte is a UNESCO-listed pilgrimage route of frescoed chapels climbing the hillside, with a broad view over the water to Isola Comacina, the lake’s only island and one of its most atmospheric corners.
