Laglio, Lake Como: A Quiet Ribbon of Villas and Stone
Laglio stretches in a narrow ribbon between Lake Como and a steep wooded slope. Villas hide behind gates, stone lanes climb away from the shore and the village looks across one of the deepest parts of the lake toward Careno and Pognana Lario.
Its fame may attract curiosity, but Laglio is best approached as a quiet residential village, with respect for private homes and ordinary local life.
A brief history
Laglio is among the old settlements of the western shore, formed around lakeside hamlets and the historic route north from Como. Fishing, farming and travel by boat preceded the villas that later reshaped parts of the shoreline. The parish church of San Giorgio, rebuilt in the early modern period, remains the principal public landmark.
Where Laglio sits on the lake
Laglio lies between Moltrasio and Brienno on the western side of the Como branch. The village is long and narrow, with the main road following the water and older houses rising on the slope above it.
The best things to see in Laglio
1. The Church of San Giorgio
San Giorgio’s bell tower marks the centre of Laglio from across the water. The church and nearby lanes offer a public, historic focus in a village where many of the best-known properties are private.
2. The village lanes and viewpoints
Small streets and stairways climb behind the shore road, revealing stone houses, garden walls and glimpses across the lake. Walk carefully: pavements are limited and the road can be busy.
3. The public lake views
Laglio faces a particularly dramatic stretch of water, backed by the mountains of the eastern shore. Enjoy it from public squares and paths without approaching private gates or docks.
Planning your visit

Best for. Quiet architecture, villa landscapes and travellers happy with a slow village walk rather than a list of attractions.
When to go. Spring and autumn for comfortable walking; early morning is calmest in summer.
Nearby. Moltrasio lies south and Brienno north.
Laglio’s charm is measured in small views: a bell tower, a garden wall and dark-blue water opening between old houses.
