Acquaseria, Lake Como: A Quiet Shore Beneath San Siro

Acquaseria is the kind of Lake Como village that asks very little of you. A small waterfront, a beach, stone lanes and a broad view across the upper lake make it an easy place to slow down between the busier centres of Menaggio and Dongo.

It belongs to the municipality of San Siro, but Acquaseria has a clear character of its own: practical, lived-in and close to the water.

A brief history

Acquaseria developed beside the old western-shore route that linked Como with the Alto Lario. Fishing, farming and movement along the lake shaped daily life here, while the surrounding slopes supported small hamlets and terraces. The modern village remains modest, with its oldest lanes gathered just behind the waterfront.

Where Acquaseria sits on the lake

Acquaseria lies on Lake Como’s western shore, a short distance north of Menaggio and south of Rezzonico, Cremia and Pianello del Lario. The lake is already wider here than in the central basin, and the mountains across the water rise sharply above Bellano and Dervio.

The best things to see in Acquaseria

1. The waterfront and beach

Acquaseria’s simple lakeside is its greatest pleasure. The small beach and open water suit an unhurried swim or a quiet hour by the lake, while the view reaches across to the steep eastern shore. It feels local rather than staged for sightseeing.

2. The old village lanes

Behind the main road, narrow lanes climb between stone houses, small courtyards and the everyday life of the village. A short wander gives a better sense of Acquaseria than a checklist of monuments ever could.

3. Walks through San Siro

Acquaseria is a useful starting point for exploring the scattered villages of San Siro. Short roads and paths connect the shoreline with Santa Maria and Rezzonico, where the scenery becomes more rugged and historic.

Planning your visit

Getting there. Buses on the western-shore route stop in Acquaseria. Boat services are more useful from nearby Menaggio; check our Lake Como ferry guide before travelling.

Best for. Travellers who prefer a quiet base, simple lake access and one of the western shore’s less-visited corners.

When to go. Late spring to early autumn for the waterfront and swimming; spring and autumn are especially calm.

Nearby. Menaggio lies to the south, while Cremia and Pianello del Lario continue north.

Acquaseria is not a village of grand attractions. Its appeal is the lake at your feet and the sense that ordinary Lake Como life is still carrying on around you.
